Now a popular fixture on the Society calendar, we are again organising an outing on Monday 10th July to the lovely Ripon racecourse for an exciting evening of horseracing at their ‘Blues Brothers Evening Meeting’. Known as ‘Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse’, Ripon an absolute delight. Apart from the race-card itself – six races starting at 6.45pm and finishing at 9.15pm – there’s a bandstand with live music and plenty of options for food and refreshments. Our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves last year – even if some returned empty-handed! Why not join us for an enjoyable evening with that little bit of added excitement as you speculate on your favoured selections!! Members’ guests are also welcome.
Even if you haven’t been racing before you’ll enjoy the atmosphere and the buzz as the horses thunder past the winning post. There is no need to understand the intricacies of horses’ form – one only needs an eye for a good name or a pin to stick in the card!! The bookmakers accept bets around £1 upward and you can also use the Tote racing facility for wagers.
The Society is running a 16 seat minibus to the event from Bradford departing between 4.00 – 4.30pm – exact pickup points and times will be confirmed once numbers and names are known – and we will arrive home at around 11.00pm. The cost will be £18 per person and includes travel and entry to the Paddock & Enclosure – entitling you to access the parade ring, the covered viewing area and all amenities.
Details of the event have been sent to all members by email. Please respond by Weds 5th July using the form attached to the email and return to Kerr Kennedy, 32 Ashwell Road, Heaton, Bradford BD9 4AU. Alternatively, contact Kerr on 07970 952503 and reserve a place by telephone.
UPDATE: As at 1st July there are still six places available on the minibus.
